It was a black Boxing Day in Warri, Delta State, as no fewer than three persons including a female sex worker and her client were burnt to death in a mysterious fire outbreak that gutted a popular commercial sex centre located near Orhowhurun roundabout along Udu Road near Warri, the commercial nerve of oil rich Delta. Property estimated to be worth tens of millions as well as neighbouring stores and residential buildings were also consumed in the process. Although, the cause of the fire was still unknown at the time Saturday Mirror visited the scene, it was learnt that the fire emanated from one of the rooms of one of the sex workers at about 1am. It was observed that the brothel, fondly called Mandelas, was completely wiped out as sympathisers who thronged the scene lamented that they could not do much to save the situation. Located around the densely populated Udu Road, the popular Mandelas building served, apart from a brothel, as a business hub in the neighbourhood. Big men and politicians reportedly visited the place for sex. The corpses of the victims; a boy, a woman in her thirties and a middleaged man who were caught in the inferno were burnt beyond recognition. The inferno also extended to near-by buildings through electric wires supplying electric power to the area and completely razed the provisions, electrical appliances and pharmaceutical shops situated in front of the sex centre. According to a sympathizer, the corpses of the sex worker and her male client were found together on the same spot. Some human bones were left behind after their remains were taken to an undisclosed morgue. Some shop owners and residents of the area were seen lamenting the unfortunate incident while others wept inconsolably that their entire belongings and life investments had been destroyed by the fire.
