Devotion: Praise-Worshipping God Amiss? (Strictly for Levites)

Matt 15:8 this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

The doctrine that "It is possible to pray to God amiss but impossible to Praise or Worship God amiss" is a strange doctrine seriously ravaging the modern day Church. Experience alongside my small knowledge of the scripture has taught me that it is possible for a praise/worship leader to worship God amiss. The inkling that can be derived from the above scriptural text simply reveals that when praise/worship goes up from the mouth whilst the heart of the 'Praiser' wanders away in thought of many things, then it is simply called 'Praise-worshiping God amiss'. Also Eph.5:19 emphatically states; "Speak to one another with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual songs, sing and make music in your HEARTS TO THE LORD". Hence any praise/worship from a HEART that is not in tune with GOD or from a HEART that is not directed towards GOD is nothing but praise-worshiping God amiss. No wonder the lines of a chorus from a popular song writer says "I'm coming back to the HEART of Worship, for it's all about You Jesus...". This is how to actually know when you worship God amiss.

First and foremost, a praise/worship leader who is not Born-Again is just praise-worshipping God amiss by offering strange fire before God (Lev.10:1). This is tantamount to singing the Lord's song in a strange Land (Psl. 137:4)

When a young Born-Again Christian Brother leads in Praise with the intention of wooing a sister through either his lovely voice or musical skills/prowess on his instrument, he is praise-worshipping amiss. Similarly, when a tongue-speaking, Spirit-filled and vibrant Christian sister sings with the intention of showing unmarried brothers that she is available for marriage, then she is praise-worshipping amiss.

When you sing or play on your instrument as unto the Lord but to impress men in the spirit of competition/show-off, or when you praise/worship God with any other impure motive, even though the atmosphere might be charged with shouts of rejoicing borne out of mere excitements, you are actually praise-worshipping amiss.

When you lead praise/worship with jealousy, envy, malice, unforgiveness etc, you are praise-worshipping amiss.

In summary, it is important to note that the principles that make one pray amiss are the same principles that make another praise-worship amiss.

Oh Praise-Worshipper (Levites)! Please watch the contents of your hearts whilst you are praise-worshipping God so as to avoid the dangers of praise-worshipping God amiss!
