David Oyelowo To Co-Star In ‘Americanah’ With Lupita Nyong’o

David Oyelowo does not wait long to get the ball rolling on his next project, and looks to be making smart decisions when doing so. Fresh off his Golden Globe nomination for his role as Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma, he will join Lupita Nyong’o in the film Americanah.

While not known to many people by name yet, Oyelowo is quickly starting to make himself known in Hollywood. He has been seen in smaller parts in many films throughout his career, but perhaps after being in three of the year’s most talked about films (Interstellar, A Most Violent Year, and Selma), he will become a household name.

Some of his earlier film credits include The Butler, Lincoln, The Paperboy, Red Tails, The Help, and The Last King Of Scotland.

Lupita Nyong’o had already been cast in the upcoming film Americanah, and with the addition of David Oyelowo, it is certain to draw in audiences. The film is based on the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and it was previously listed as one of the best books of 2013 by the New York Times Book Review.

In the film, David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o werian immigrants who are forced to go through a lifetime of struggles, while their relationship endures the hardship.

Americanah has yet to find a director or writer, but after working with Lupita Nyong’o on 12 Years A Slave, Brad Pitt is involved as a producer, along with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood. She won an Academy Award last year for her role as Patsy in the film that was awarded Best Picture.

David Oyelowo has already secured a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Selma, and is likely to be considered for a nomination at the Academy Awards as well. He can be seen next in Captive, co-starring Kate Mara, and also has two more films in post production, Nina and Five Nights in Maine.
